Mark your calendars for Friday, February 14th, 2014 as the streets of downtown Frankfort will be all abuzz from 5 to 8 pm as the annual SweetArt ArtWalk takes place.  Bring your sweetie down for an evening on the town and enjoy art of every medium, eat at one of the many restaurants open and relax with a spirit of your choosing.  This event isn’t just for couples.  No babysitter for the kids?  NO PROBLEM!!!  Downtown Frankfort’s ArtWalk is always a good place for families to roam the shops and see all the different artists that now call Frankfort home.  Meet the artists and inspire the children!  This is truly a family friendly event.

Drive away those winter blues with a HOT, BRIGHT, & BOLD evening of art in the Capital City!  16+ ArtStops will feature work from dozens of local and regional artists. Paintings, photography, prints, etchings, jewelry, wood designs, pottery, & more! Meet and mingle with the artists. Enjoy dinner, drinks, or just a nice evening out with your Sweetheart, sampling the SweetART in Downtown Frankfort.
Join us for the ArtWalk “Sneak Peek”: a short-run group exhibit, sampling art from the upcoming ArtWalk. The Sneak Peek runs 2/3-2/8 at Capital Cellars with the Artists’ Sneak Peek Reception: Saturday, 2/8, 5-7pm.

Here’s a listing of the participating ArtStops:

1. Cornerstone Art & Events Gallery 110 E Broadway … … “A Ride Down Memory Lane” – photographs of the Legislative and Executive branches of government with pictures of past Presidents and Governors.  Dinner Special:  Valentine Dinner for Two – rib eye steak, baked potato, salad & dessert – for $28.95 from 5-9.

2. Broadway Clay Studio & Gallery 223 W Broadway … Featuring Local and Area Potters and Painters.

3. First Christian Church Use the Lewis St. door across from Capital Gallery … Calligraphic artwork with a Christian theme by Rosalee Anderson.

4. Capital Gallery … “The Unique Personality of Greg Seigel: Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture” (Exhibition: Jan 17-Feb 28. Opening reception Friday, 1/17, from 5-8pm. Gallery hours: Tue-Sat, 10-5.  502 223-2349)

5. Capital Cellars 227 W Broadway … Recent paintings, abstracts and landscapes by Bill Macintire.

6. Poor Richard’s Books 233 W Broadway … Local personality, Gina Morales from Hair on Broadway, will present mixed media on ceramic tile.

7. Kentucky Coffeetree Café 235 W Broadway … Katherine Knight presents a collection of odds-and-ends accumulated over the past five years, including watercolor and pencil sketches, oil paintings, and etchings. Some are studies for larger works, and some are finished pieces in their own right. All deal loosely with personal and family narrative. Katherine Knight received a BA from Center College and a MFA from American University in Washington, DC.  She also studied painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Slade School of Art in London, England, and has just completed a residency at the Burren College of Art at Ballyvaughan, Ireland.  Katherine currently divides her time between Frankfort and Washington, DC, where she is an Adjunct Professor at Prince George’s Community College and the Corcoran College of Art.  ArtWalk Specials: cherry hot chocolate for $3.00; $1 off beer or wine with purchase of dinner.

8. Completely Kentucky – Gallery of Fine Craft 237 W Broadway… Featuring a focus on love-themed art, including exclusive jewelry by Lisa Weber – perfect for Valentine’s Day!  Also, find NEW Kentucky Heartwood mugs along with Kentucky Proud food tastings.

9. G Studios 336 St Clair … A complete Tattoo Studio and Art Gallery, established by nationally known artist Thaddeus Gallegos.  Also, a hub for hungry local artists with great potential … paintings, sculpture, jewelry design and more!

10. Rodgers Studio, 224 W Main … Meet photographer Bill Rodgers. View artistic images from in & around Frankfort, photographic portraitures & more.

11. 228 W Main … A sampling of recent works by Capital City Art Guild members.

12. McClure Building Art Studios 306 W Main a) Betty Beshoar Art Studio, 7th Floor, Room 700 … Come visit my working art studio, open to the public for ArtWalk, displaying floral still lifes in oil (a very nice Valentine’s present!), nature journaling pages and landscape paintings. b) Studio 710, (end of the 7th floor hallway) … New oil paintings by Karen Carey and Jerri Wallace will be featured along with Sandy Gulik’s paintings and creations giving new life to fine fabrics.  The three artists welcome you to browse and enjoy refreshments.

13. Wesley Center at First United Methodist Church 211 Washington … Through the end of February, Marjorie Duncan Doneghy Willis and Jardan Paige Doneghy offer a variety of original art works for view and sale.  Some restorations may be displayed.

14. Paul Sawyier Public Library 319 Wapping … View the library’s newly acquired Paul Sawyier originals Churches Grove and Portrait of Miss Finnell, purchased by Friends of the Library.  Also, the Big Woods Art School features selections from the art portfolios of the grandchildren of Laurie Schimmoeller, ages 6-10, created over the last two years.  Educated at the Boston School of Fine Arts, Laurie has told stories and taught art in local schools as a volunteer for over 45 years.  She has taught art and art history every Friday to her grandchildren since they were old enough to hold a crayon.   Phillip and Eric Peiffer (ages 10 and 8) and Natalie and Sophie Dufour (ages 10 and 6) love walking through the woods to their grandmother’s cabin and creating art with her.

15. Rhonda Gauthier Fine Art Gallery 115 Bridge Street … Original Impressionist oil paintings AND home to Sax Man SAMMY COULTER who will be singing & playing his saxophones.  502-320-3856

16. Singing Bridge Galleria 119 Bridge St … Artist Michele Daigle works in a variety of media – paintings, photography, puppets and  fiber art. 17. Full Circle Studio & Gallery 121 Bridge St … Featuring the works of over a dozen talented artists, this new art venue will be offering a Couples Painting Class for  Valentine’s. Couples will create an acrylic on canvas of a Parisian scene.  The class ($75/couple) is from 6-9pm on 2/14 – bring your valentine, a bottle of wine and lots of creativity.
